U.S. Manufacturing Gains Only 6,000 jobs in July 2013.

#AAMeter Registers a Weak +24,000 jobs.

The latest monthly U.S. jobs report shows America’s manufacturing sector added only 6,000 jobs in July 2013.
Commented Scott Paul, President of the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM):
“For the past year, manufacturing job growth has stalled. It’s clear the status quo isn’t working. Our trade deficit with China is rising. Public investment in construction and infrastructure is declining. Aggregate demand is weak. Yet what is Washington focused on? Scandals, distractions, and sequesters.
“It’s time for Congress to step up to the plate and pass a manufacturing strategy and jobs plan. And it’s time for President Obama to take concrete action in addition to delivering great speeches. There’s a lot the Administration could be doing to boost manufacturing right now, but instead it is choosing to point fingers.
“Reshoring manufacturing jobs is not only something our nation wants and needs, it’s also entirely possible with the right policies.”
In an op-ed yesterday in Real Clear Politics, Paul urged Congress and the Administration to undertake a competitiveness-and-jobs agenda.
The #AAMeter.
President Obama set a goal of creating 1 million new manufacturing jobs in his second term. To follow the president’s progress, the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM) continually updates a jobs tracker, the#AAMeter, based on monthly jobs data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
